Tompkins började sin ståupp karriär 1986 och är ofta headliner i Los Angeles klubbarna, där han bor. Tompkins har skrivit för The Daily Show och medverkat i Tenecious D:s TV serie och haft ett eget segment i programmet Real Time with Bill Maher. Men nu gör han succé varje vecka med sin speciella humor som kommentator på Best Week Ever.
